Hey Everyone!!! What an Amazing weekend at the Midwest ROC/RJCC!!!
On Friday morning in Men’s Cadet, Henry came out of pools 4-1 fencing very well, seeding 8th out of pools. In his first DE against the 25th seed it was obvious that the pressure and tension were weighing on Henry… he wasn’t finishing actions, hesitating when there was an opening, ultimately losing 14-15. Colton had decent pools 3-2 but nothing to write home about. But when it came to his first two DEs he stormed through them! Upsetting number 3 seed Tyler Shaffer (Windy City) as if he was the 28th seed with a score of 15/6!! Than in R8, Colton had the ever strong Kenneth Huang (FCC) who pushed through to beat Colton 15-8!! Colton took 8th in Cadet!! Let’s Go!!
In Men's Div 1A - out of pools with 62 fencers…the strongest results were Evan 15th and Henry 19th!! Henry pulled the tough Ethan Glen who had poor pools but was ready to go!! It was a true seesaw battle that came down to 14-14!! Henry right off the on-guard line saw an opportunity but decided not to go - Glen capitalized and finished the bout. Evan and Nathaniel were matched up in DEs! Evan got up 7-2 but Nathaniel dug deep, fought back into the bout, almost pulling out an upset!! Evan marched on through tough bouts with Beech, Huang and Tollefson both As to the Semis where he met the Infamous Jovan (who fences for Serbia, FCC and internationally) but lost 9-15 taking 3rd in a major event and Earning his B!!
Sunday brought Men’s Div 2… Evan and Henry were ready!! But they both got taken out by Robert Blat (Minnesota), longtime coach and high level fencer…. First Henry in R8 than Evan in Semis!! But it’s Epee nothing is predictable!! Evan took 3rd and Henry in 7th!
Juniors was last… Colton had mixed pools but a brilliant last pool bout with Logan Williams who was dominating pools and ended up beating Logan 5-3!! Now Colton during this event was suffering from a nagging ankle injury which makes this victory all the more sweet!!! Unfortunately Colton lost his first DE but fought hard!!
Evan, on the other hand, started to realize that if he had self trust he could win bouts that he didn’t believe he could!! In the Semis Evan was against Mitev in a tense bout which felt like being in the finals!! Mitev has so comp experience, confidence, and skills!! Right out of the gate Evan goes for it with Self Trust in his actions gaining a 4-1 lead and it never really changed, even though there were weapon/cord issues for Mitev that stalled the bout significantly. But Evan knows the stories of Annie relaxing and letting go and engaging in a emotional/mental state that calmed her!! Evan took this card, played it, and found himself in the Junior Finals against the respectable/honorable Logan Williams!! What a bout! Evan, again, established control of the strip right away and never gave it away! He won, 15-11, earning his A! Evan didn’t do any fancy tricks or tactics to win Junior…. He demonstrated self trust and emotional/mental game that allowed him to feel open minded and the ability
to bounce back into the fight!!
Thank you to Peoria Fencing Academy for running an excellent comp!! Great Refs!! Bout committee amazing!! Responding to issues Excellent!! You all Rock!!
