Sixteen athletes from Traverse City Fencing Club qualified for and competed in 20 events at the 2025 USA Fencing Summer National Championships, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from June 28 to July 7. This annual tournament is the largest and most prestigious fencing competition in the United States, attracting more than 6,000 fencers from across the country. With over 90 events across all age groups and weapons—foil, épée, and saber—it represents the pinnacle of the competitive season.
Leading the way for Traverse City was Claire Norconk, who earned a gold medal in Division II Women’s Épée, besting a field of 168 fencers to capture the national title. Her outstanding performance capped a season of consistent growth and training.
Adeline Depauw also reached the national podium, placing 8th in Division III Women’s Épée and earning a top-eight national medal in another competitive field. Her result underscores the depth of talent coming out of Traverse City Fencing Club.
“This is the pinnacle of the fencing season,” said Jeff Underhill, President of Traverse City Fencing Club. “To see Claire take gold and Adeline earn a national medal speaks volumes about their work ethic and the community we've built here. These are massive accomplishments.”
The strong club-wide presence in Milwaukee reflects years of investment in coaching, athlete development, and a culture focused on perseverance, sportsmanship, and excellence.
With the new season approaching, Traverse City Fencing Club will offer beginner fencing classes starting this fall, open to both youth and adults. These classes provide a perfect entry point into the Olympic sport of fencing in a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment.
